Life used to be simple. The toughest decision we faced was whether to grab a Paddle Pop or a packet of chips at the school canteen. Weekends were sacred — cartoons blaring, cereal in hand, and sugary treats that tasted like pure happiness.

But somewhere between growing up and growing older, the world — and our favourite snacks — changed. One by one, those iconic Aussie treats vanished from the shelves, leaving behind nothing but memories and a sugar-shaped hole in our hearts.

Here are five dearly missed classics that defined our childhoods:

Lifesavers Hard Candy
The canteen’s crown jewel — shiny foil rolls packed with rainbow perfection. Whether you hoarded the pineapple ones or licked them down to razor-thin rings, Lifesavers were a ritual. Their quiet exit in 2023 felt like betrayal wrapped in nostalgia.

Green Frogs
Zingy, limey, and criminally underrated. While Red Frogs soaked up all the fame, the Greens were the bold underdogs — tangy, chewy, and a little weird (in the best way). Axed in 2014, briefly resurrected, now gone for good.

Time Out Bars
Flake’s cooler, crunchier cousin. Layers of wafer and chocolate bliss that nailed the after-school craving. When Cadbury replaced them with the sad “Time Out Wafer,” we all knew something beautiful had ended.

Fantales
Is there a lolly more Aussie? That chewy caramel coated in trivia and nostalgia. Fantales were a national treasure — dentist’s nightmare, movie snack of choice, and conversation starter. Their 2023 farewell hit like losing a beloved family member.

Starburst Chews
You were either Team Pink or wrong. These sticky, juicy squares ruled lunchboxes and road trips alike. When they disappeared in 2022, the country united in outrage. No knock-off has come close.
