It turns out, a whopping number of people actually dread phone calls and would much rather communicate via text message.

The news comes via a recent poll conducted by Pubity’s own broadcast channel, one that had some startling results when it comes to our preferred means of communication.

The call out asked followers a simple question: “Are you scared of phone calls?”

The poll gave users two possible answer choices. The first was “Yes, I’d rather text” and the second was “No, I prefer phone calls.”

People wasted no time chiming in with their answers. By the time all was said and done, the questions had revealed that 65% of people would much rather send their friends a simple text than actually hear their voice. In fact, more than 24.8K people agreed with this sentiment over the 13.3K who said they actually quite like speaking to people over the phone.

Perhaps these results aren’t too surprising. In fact, an article on Forbes pointed out that most millennials actually hate phone calls – and this has likely spread to other generations.

According to their report, a phone call “seem invasive because it demands an instant response.”

In comparison, different media like emails, DMs and texts at least give users the benefit of a bit of reply time.
