A street fortune teller in Thailand has taken “making predictions come true” a step too far, and it’s landed him in serious trouble. Udomsap Mueangkaew, who works the streets of Pattaya, was arrested after allegedly stealing a client’s mobile phone moments after delivering a grim forecast.

According to local reports, Udomsap warned a young woman that bad luck was coming her way during a reading. Almost immediately after, he grabbed her phone and ran, apparently determined to turn his prophecy into reality. The stunned woman quickly reported the theft to police.

Officers tracked the fortune teller down soon after and recovered the stolen phone, bringing his unusual scheme to a swift end. Authorities have since charged Udomsap with theft.

While fortune telling is a popular and widely accepted practice in Thailand, this incident has sparked debate about ethics and trust in the mystical trade. Social media users have been quick to joke that the fortune teller should have seen his own arrest coming, but police say the incident is no laughing matter.
