Aussie icon Vegemite has introduced its first major new product in several years, with the launch of Vegemite Kids — a version created specifically for younger taste buds.
The new spread has been developed with families in mind, offering a milder flavour profile and a smoother texture than traditional Vegemite. According to the company, the product contains 50 per cent less salt than the original recipe while still delivering the B vitamins Vegemite is famous for.
The launch follows more than 18 months of development, with feedback gathered from parents and children helping shape the final product. The goal was to create a gentler introduction to Vegemite for kids who may find the original version a little too strong.
One of the biggest changes is the spreadability. Vegemite Kids has a softer, creamier consistency designed to make it easier for children to spread on their own toast or sandwiches without tearing the bread. Parents may also appreciate the added independence at breakfast time.
While the flavour has been toned down, the company says the new recipe still retains the savoury character Australians expect from Vegemite. A different yeast blend has been used to create a smoother taste while maintaining the product’s nutritional benefits.
Vegemite Kids joins a long line of product innovations from the iconic Australian brand, which has been a pantry staple for more than a century. The original Vegemite recipe remains unchanged, with the new version intended as an additional option rather than a replacement.
Vegemite Kids is available now in 220g jars at major supermarkets across Australia.
