Just when you thought Australian television couldn’t get any stranger, along comes a horror comedy about murderous garden gnomes!

Yes, those little ceramic fellas sitting peacefully in Grandma’s garden are now out for blood!

The new Australian series, Gnomes, is streaming on Stan, and it’s being described as a cross between Gremlins and Hot Fuzz.

Set in the fictional Victorian town of Nompton, the story follows a struggling local police officer whose day goes horribly wrong when an ancient evil awakens a terrifying Gnome Queen. Suddenly, hundreds of garden ornaments come to life and start terrorising the locals!

The six-part series stars Asa Butterfield from Sex Education alongside Australian actress Megan Smart.

Filmed in Melbourne, the production even used specially created gnome puppets, including some that could run, smash and shoot fire!

It’s ridiculous, bloody and completely over the top.

And suddenly, stealing someone’s garden gnome doesn’t seem quite so funny anymore!
