Well, here’s a word you probably haven’t used over breakfast. Mogging!

Collins Dictionary has crowned it Word of the Year for 2026, and apparently, the younger generation can’t get enough of it.

So what does it mean?

Mogging is when someone completely outshines or outperforms somebody else, particularly in looks, confidence or status. The expression originated in online bodybuilding communities around 2016, where it was associated with being the dominant male in a group. Since then, it’s exploded across social media, with usage jumping a whopping 210 percent this year.

Other shortlisted expressions included ghost jobs, meaning advertised positions nobody intends to fill, and fricy, describing food that’s both fruity and spicy.

So, next time somebody looks better than you in a photo, congratulations, you’ve been mogged!

Whatever happened to simply saying someone looked better than you?
