Pixar’s Toy Story 5 has stormed into cinemas with the biggest box office opening of 2026, pulling in an incredible $312 million globally during its debut weekend. That includes $160 million in North America and another $152 million from international audiences, making it the biggest opening in the franchise’s history.

The film reunites fan favourites Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Jessie, but this time the toys face a very modern threat – technology. The story centres on Bonnie becoming obsessed with a tablet device, leaving the toys wondering whether traditional playtime still has a place in a screen-filled world.

The movie’s huge debut easily topped the weekend box office, finishing well ahead of thriller Disclosure Day and horror hits Obsession and Backrooms.

Thirty-one years after the original Toy Story changed animation forever, it seems audiences still have a friend in Woody and Buzz.
