A new report has shed light on Australia’s growing sleep crisis, with experts warning that poor sleep is becoming a national health issue. According to The Great Aussie Wake-Up, 91% of Aussies struggle to fall or stay asleep during the week, and 93% regularly wake too early.
There are hundreds of online sleep experts, influencers, and “bedtime biohackers” out there, each with their tips, tricks, and trademarked methods. But dig through the noise, and a few fundamentals keep coming up. Here are the top five things most of them agree on:
Get the light right:
Natural morning light wakes you up. Harsh blue light at night keeps you up. Easy.
Eat like a human:
Skipping breakfast and snacking late confuses your body. Your circadian rhythm prefers a regular meal schedule.
Stay cool:
Your room, not your attitude. A cool sleep environment helps your body wind down.
Hydrate wisely:
Dehydration can mess with sleep hormones and cause symptoms like cramps or dry mouth. Sip water through the day (not just right before bed, unless you enjoy midnight bathroom breaks).
Routine is everything:
Going to bed and waking up at the same time every day is boring but brilliant.
