Far too sensible. A British food writer has taste-tested and ranked 99 of the strangest ice creams of 2026, featuring flavours that sound more like somebody emptied the pantry into an ice-cream machine.

Among the contenders were soy sauce, Marmite on toast, olive oil, brown bread and miso banana butterscotch. But sitting proudly at number 99, otherwise known as dead last, was Paxo sage-and-onion stuffing ice cream. Yes, somebody took the flavour normally shoved inside a roast chicken and turned it into dessert.

Thankfully, some unusual combinations actually worked.

Brown bread ice cream finished third, miso banana butterscotch was among the favourites, while the overall winner was brown butter popcorn, scoring a perfect ten for taste.

So the lesson here is simple.

Experimenting with ice cream can produce something extraordinary.

But if your dessert tastes like Christmas dinner, perhaps put the spoon down.
