Hey ladies, would you let your hubby carry you through the mud for beer and cash?
Well, a lot of Maine couples did.
More then 30 gathered at Sunday River in Newry, Maine for the epic North American Wife Carrying Championship, according to the New York Post.
Every year, couples flock to the mountain to take on the challenge that’s equal parts entertaining and probably exhausting!
This competition has now evolved where you do not have to be married to enter, nor does it have to be a man and a woman. Come as the couple you are! Equality at it’s finest.
Whether you’re a super fit athlete or just a couple looking to test your teamwork, the partner-carrying contest is bound to be an adventure with lots of laugh.
You can dress up or just wear athleticwear, or in your jammies. One couple dressed as Mr. and Mrs. Incredible from The Incredibles movie, according to APnews.
The rules are simple, you carry your partner through a 278-yard obstacle course filled with hurdles over logs, water, and sand traps. According to Bing, the winners were Michael and Hannah Batakis.
But here’s the kicker, many choose the “Estonian method,” where the wife is upside-down with her legs around the husband’s neck, according to the Associated Press.
My core hurts just thinking about it. If you figure, an average person probably weighs 130-140 pounds and carrying that around your neck is probably not easy for 278 yards.
Winners not only got bragging rights but also take home the partners weight in beer. Most of the contestants don’t compete to win either, they do it because everyone cheers you on and it’s hilarious.
Whether you’re in it for the fun or just watching, Sunday River’s wife-carrying contest is a spectacle.
The event draws people from all over. I am now going to set a reminder in my phone, so my wife and I can start practicing and see if its worth us trying out this challenge.
